Friendsgiving Celebration

By Franziska Elmer

What do you get if you cross a turkey with an octopus? Enough drum sticks to feed CIEE and their friends!
On the 24th of November the students and staff from CIEE celebrated Thanksgiving together with Gibi and his family and the two STINAPA interns that live at CIEE.

For some it was their first Thanksgiving celebration, while others usually celebrate this holiday with their families. The tables were set beautifully by the Tropical Marine Conservation Biology instructor and intern, of course with all recycled material according to the reduce plastic theme of their class. Gibi cooked two tasty turkeys and the student’s favourite traditional Thanksgiving side dishes. We also discovered that stuffing one selves with lots of food apparently brings up all kinds of childhood memories: people played finger string games, hand clapping games or crafted jewellery and yoyos by melting polyester string over a candle. All of these activities filled the classroom with laughter and joy!
