We have a wonderful new batch of interns helping us with the array of education programs and research we are conducting at CIEE Bonaire this summer.
Zoe is a CIEE alum and currently a research intern. She hails from Tokyo, Washington DC, and Chicago, yet has fallen head over heels in love with the tropical ocean life of the Caribbean. She recently graduated from Occidental College of Los Angeles, with a B.A. in Biology with a marine science emphasis and theater minor. At Occidental, Zoe focused on fish life history, water chemistry, and museum science collections of the Southern California Bight. Her independent research in Costa Rica and Panama last summer on the endangered Acropora corals fueled her strong interest in coral reef ecology and conservation. In her free time she enjoys camping, being in the water, and eating poke bowls.
Jay is a CIEE alumni and current intern. He got a Bachelors of Science in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. After graduating he moved to Roatan, Honduras where he worked as a Dive Master and Open Water SCUBA Diving Instructor.
Michelle grew up in upstate New York and despite being landlocked, fell in love with the ocean at an early age. She recently graduated from Eckerd College, a small school in Florida, with a B.S. in Marine Science, Biology concentration. Michelle’s primary interests include coral reef ecology and coral reef restoration and has gained experience in both of these fields by conducting Reef Check surveys in the South Pacific, diving and interning at the Florida Aquarium, and interning for the Coral Restoration Foundation. Michelle is very excited to join the CIEE Bonaire team and share her passion for the ocean with students and staff from around the globe!
Nicole is a CIEE alumnus from the spring of 2014. Nicole graduated from Roger Williams University with a B.S. in Marine Biology and a B.S. in Environmental Science. She is a co-author on the Diver Impact Study led by CIEE faculty Dr. Patrick Lyons. She is now glad to be back as an intern for the summer one program and now interning for our intensive summer research program!
